Receiving my IPSY glam bag is always a highlight of my month. May was no exception. For those of you that are new to IPSY, it is a beauty bag subscription for only $10 a month. Each month they send you 5 products, both full size and deluxe samples, personalized to you based on how your filled out their makeup survey. It’s a really great way to build your makeup arsenal and try new brands/products for really cheap. From my experience the bags’ average retail value is about $55. Plus, every month they send your products in a (usually) cute makeup bag. Want to join the club? Sign up here.
The theme for this month was Summer Friday. Although usually the only product that really coincides with the theme is the bag, 4 of my 5 products this month would be perfect for to use on a long summer weekend. What do you think of the this month’s bag? It’s clear plastic that covered with ice cream cones and popsicles. I’m not really loving it. While I think a water proof bag would be super convenient especially in the summer, I think the design is kind of juvenile and the construction looks cheap.
Jelly Pong Pong Supercharged Eyeshadow Duo
– Supercharged is right. This is a super-pigmented shimmery eyeshadow set that is super blendable, long lasting, and really pretty. (on my skin tone at least) I also love the little case which will be perfect for summer vacations.(swatches below) – $22.95
My favorite way to use: Apply the gold shadow all over your lid blending upwards to just above the crease. Add a line of the dusty rose with a wet brush as a liner on your top lid for a warm summery look.
Briogeo Rosarco Milk reparitve leave-in conditioning spray
– For a conditioning spray, this has a super light formula that repairs, tames fly aways, and adds shine without creating a greasy mess. That is really rare with my hair as it is so greasy, but for as little as I use leave in conditioners this will be my new go-to. It has a floral scent that is a little overpowering at first but after a few minutes is delicious – $9
My favorite way to use: Spray in damp hair pre-blowout as a heat protectant and for extra shine.
Royal and Langnickel Precision Angled Eyeshadow Brush
-This brush has really soft synthetic bristles that are densely packed, which allows for precise, heavy eyeshadow application. Don’t be too fooled by the name though, this is not some thin-tipped detail eyeshadow brush, but more of a crease/blending brush – $6.50
Urban Decay Afterglow 8-hour Powder Highlighter in Sin
– I was super excited to get this in my glam bag this month. You can’t go wrong with Urban Decay (other than by out spending your budget =) and this was no exception. This high impact highlighter is gorgeous dusted on top of your cheek bones and on your T-zone. It doesn’t settle into pores or fine lines either, so the only draw back for me was that it was a sample size. (swatches below) -$8.60
My favorite way to use: For a subtle glowy shimmer, apply after primer but before foundation. Blend your foundation well, add a touch of highlighter to the inside corner of your eyes to brighten them up, then prepare for the compliments.
Caked Makeup Lip Fondant
– I was not crazy about this when I first saw it, but that just goes to show that first impressions aren’t everything. When I tried it out I fell in love with the creamy formula that dries matte and is wears pretty well. It’s not at all sticky once it dries and it smells really sweet, but the best part about this lipstick is the color. With one coat it is a light semi-sheer dirty raspberry, add another coat for more intense color. The doe foot applicator is also super convenient for precise lines.- $16
Swatches from left to right: Jelly Pong Pong Supercharged Eyeshadow – gold and dusty rose – Urban decay Afterglow Highlighter (which really doesn’t look that frosty on your face) – Caked Makeup Lip fondant in Low Key
Total Retail Value ~$63 + shipping
So although the bag was kind of a bummer this month, I was super happy with the products. Definitely worth the $10 to me.
